Ten years seem to have raced by; I lived in England, got a degree, got my heart broken, lived in Paris, learnt a new language, moved to LA, started a new life, made many friends, got another degree, another heartbreak, achieved some dreams, had a career in Entertainment, created a lot of art, found wellness, found “the one,” got engaged, learnt another new language, became an Aunt five times, lost loved ones, became a Reiki Master and have had many great memories, much laughter, a few tears and an entire cellar of wine! Here’s what my twenties have taught me.
WHO I AM
It took several professions, goals, heartbreaks and friendships to realize exactly that and discover what really matters; I’m a good person, have a good heart and am trying my best. This is who I am and (unlike 20 year old me) I am now not willing to lessen myself on behalf of others.
WHAT REALLY MATTERS
Through losing loved ones in my 20s I learnt that people remember you for the impact you shared in their life, the way you made them feel, not the money or the job you had. The laughter, the conversations, the experiences, the feelings. I hope people remember me for my good company and big heart, but first I hope to have many more years to make many more great memories with all the people in my life.
WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER
Yes, I’m using the words of Kelly Clarkson and Daft Punk, if it doesn’t kill you, it makes you harder, better, faster, stronger… and smarter. Some of my greatest growth has come out of the hardest times, the baddest lessons have been the best!
THE MAGIC OF LETTING GO
By being unattached to an outcome you are free to go with the flow wherever the journey takes you. The times I’ve been attached to an outcome has mostly resulted in much anxiety and suffocating my chances. Those times I’ve been unattached, magic has happened and the possibilities have been endless!
ONLY TIME WILL TELL
You can’t rush growth, seeds need a whole season to push through the soil. When I was 21 I wanted to be everywhere and have everything, right here, right now, all at once, but it can’t happen that way. Time is the greatest healer and revealer and all unfolds and develops as soon as the time is right. You get what you need, not what you want in each moment, and not a minute before. Patience!
WHAT YOU WANT IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT
In my mid-twenties I set my heart on things that I thought would bring happiness, only to find when I got there, it wasn’t the happiness I was waiting for and I already wanted the next thing. Which brings me to the next point…
HAPPINESS BEGINS WITHIN
I love the quote by Marianne Williamson, “Ego says, ‘Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.’ Spirit says, ‘Find your peace, then everything will fall into place.” It’s been a constant practice keeping the inner compass pointing towards truth, love and inner peace over the last few years, but when it aligns, inner happiness surpasses what any exterior object or role can provide.
THE VIEW CHANGES
And so does your perspective. Where you are at 21 is different to where you are at 29, even if it’s the same scene, you’re higher up the mountain and have more years of climbing experience. But, there’s always a new horizon to cross and a new journey to be made and I’m about to see the view from 30…!
