You don’t have to be just one thing! As energetic beings we are many things which are constantly creating, discovering and evolving. As well as making wellness music, working with reiki energy, focusing on health and wellness, I also enjoy making large art canvases of geometric triangles with acrylic paints and various other mediums.
What I love about painting is that you can take a blank canvas and watch it evolve until it becomes the design that you’ve created every step of the way! Sometimes when I’m on a personal journey or going through something it’s easy not to see all the individual strokes that are contributing to the end result. When I’m painting I get so close to the part I’m working on that I love stepping back and seeing the big picture, even when it’s not complete, it helps me recognize in myself that each corner I work on is gradually coming together to complete the beautiful creation inside.
Here are five spiritual things I’ve learnt in doing my art projects, that not only can I apply to painting, but also to life!
1) PLAN AHEAD
When you make a plan and know what you want to do, you can then take each step required to execute it. This saves way more time than deciding to figure it out along the way.
2) TAKE IT SLOW
Rushing causes mistakes but by going slow and being consistent you’ll get further in the long run, especially as you won’t have to go back and correct what you’ve done.
3) IT’S WORTH THE UGLY
An unfinished canvas is often ugly before it’s beautiful. Each of my paintings go through so many awful stages before they get to their finished-framed-selves. Trust the journey as each of those ugly steps are necessary for the beauty of the final creation!
4) DON’T SETTLE
There’s also so many times my patience is tested and I’m ready to throw in the towel or put down the paintbrush in this case, but don’t settle until it’s right! I’m always glad for that extra hour or even the five extra minutes I put in as the beautiful just gets better!
5) DOESN’T MATTER WHAT PEOPLE THINK
If you love it, who cares? It’s art, it will have a thousand opinions but you can’t let it affect you. If you love it then it’s great, so be proud – it’s all yours!
