LISTEN TO BODY
As soon as something with dairy enters my mouth, I swallow and my stomach is growling at me within 10 minutes. Give it an hour and the effects sink in, two more hours and I’m crouched over in pain. Your body is telling you what it likes, wants, needs and the opposite- what doesn’t work in there. When you tune in to yourself, you know what’s good or bad for you.
STAND UP FOR SELF
I spent the longest time feeling guilty to be in a restaurant and have to request something different or modify a dish based on my food allergies. After a while I began to stand up for myself, I’m a paying customer providing them with business, I would clearly specify that I couldn’t eat diary and egg and if they gave me any attitude about it then talk to my stomach. What can I do about it? We’ve left restaurants and even gone into the kitchen to speak to the chef at times. Luckily most places in LA are great with food allergies, but you can’t feel guilty or ashamed, you can live an ordinary life whilst still respecting your body.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Everything you put into your body becomes a part of the system, thus you put in good things and your system runs well, you feel great. You put in nasties, the toxins work their way through and you feel terrible. Simple as that, choose what you eat based on how you want to feel.
I’ve learnt that my allergy to dairy is genetic. I don’t have the genes that produce lactase to digest the lactose milk sugar in dairy. My Dad has it, my Gran most probably had it, as do some Aunts and Uncles. We are human beings and our digestive system was not designed to drink cows milk!
POWER OF CHOICE
There are alternatives, you can easily modify a diet based on the wide range of other options you have and still get all the calcium, vitamins and minerals you aren’t getting from dairy in other ways. If your body is telling you it doesn’t like it, it could be genetic, stand up for yourself and put a good alternative in the system and your body will thank you for it!
