Last year I took on my very first interior design project, designing my husband and I’s very first home! AKA “Casa Carlsson!!!”
I have zero interior design experience, but as a creative I loved playing with styles, patterns and colors to create the look, feel and vibe of our home. I don’t know what you would call the overall result. I think there’s an eclectic Californian modern mid-century glam mixed with a boho shabby chic… I will share photos of some of the rooms on my instagram @colettecarlsson.
(PS – I am not affiliated with any of these brands or sponsored to advertise these products… just simply sharing some of my favorite items in our new home!)
We have a set of the Penelope Hope Metallic Copper Cushions on our living room cream couch. They look so classy and elegant and help tie in my husband’s black Steinway baby grand piano to an otherwise neutral palette. We also have a few gold ornaments to complement the cushions and embellish the room with a high-end, luxurious but homely feel.
This amazing juju hat from One Affirmation is featured in pride of place above the fireplace in our living room. We went for the large size to make a big welcome statement and to help bring a soft, natural feel to the otherwise grey marble mantle place. We loved it so much we also got a second juju hat in medium to hang in the center above our bed in the master bedroom. They are handmade by artists in Cameroon.
I couldn’t find the actual link to Zara because I purchased this item a few years ago and it has moved around with us from place to place. I’ve linked something similar. But this lamp is a great feature in our living room with the glass and gold tones elevating the luxury vibe in the room!
We get so many compliments on our Frame TV… It’s perfect in that when it is not in use you can display artwork, photography or your own personal photos and graphics. We have one in the kitchen that we rotate the artwork every few days so you don’t have to commit to one picture! It always looks good hanging on the wall and each image brings new life into the room! Then when you use it as a television it is a smart TV and has all our favorite apps ready to go for our Netflix and chill sessions!!
I love these candlesticks from Target, they are on our dining table and add to the elegant, luxurious feel of the room!
This trivet was a moving in gift from Johan’s parents from the quality, high-end Swedish brand Skultuna. We love the Art Deco vibe and the cool aesthetic it brings to our dinner parties when we present our table spread! We receive so many complements and know that this piece will last a lifetime!
We love the style of Skultuna so much we had to get more of their art-deco, gold trivets. This one is perfect for smaller dishes and is a lighter weight to the Dew trivet. It looks so good in the kitchen or on the dining table! It also makes a great gift!
I bought the bottom cushion in beige for my daughter’s bedroom and put it under her canopy, with loads of different pillows to create a cuddle corner! It’s so comfy and low enough to the ground she climbs up easily and I don’t have to worry about her falling off. The whole family (including the dog and all Misty’s cuddly toys) can fit on here and snuggle up for story time! It’s one of our favorite places in the house!!
I did a lot of research when picking a washable rug for my daughters bedroom. This is so soft and made from natural fibers, it looks great and it’s so convenient to be able to stick it in the washing machine when she spills her milk on the floor.
RH Teen has some really great items and I find they are not as expensive as RH itself. The boho vibe really fits my style for the house and these cascading Tull drapes look really good in our bedroom, flanking the windows at either side of the master bed. They provide a soft, ethereal feel to our California shabby, chic bedroom and partner really well with our white black out blinds.
These Anthropology scroll vine inlay drawers are beneath each window in the master bedroom and complete the tulle drapery and whimsical, shabby chic style. They are incredibly spacious as a bedside table and an amazing feature to the master bedroom!
We did an accent wall with this design in our master bathroom, right behind the bathtub with a big palm plant and it looks fantastic!!
We saw these towels at our friends house and loved the geometric design. They are great quality, durable, soft and the perfect size for body coverage after a steaming shower or relaxing bath.
Of course it wouldn’t be my house without being decked out with crystals…. so you will find several in every room. However one of my favorite pieces is our quartz crystal tea-light candle. I haven’t been able to link it because it was a wedding gift, but I found something similar at Z Gallery, although I think ours is double the size!
We have an actual 1950’s style bar in our house! Soooo… we painted it bubblegum pink and lined the inlays with this tropical floral wallpaper. It looks amazing and is the perfect place for hosting friends at home so we don’t need to get a babysitter lol. This wallpaper has an amazing pearl-esque sheen that you don’t quite get to see in a virtual image, but in real life it looks spectacular!
We purchased a custom neon sign from Neon Mfg for our wedding saying “The Carlsson’s” and had it hanging behind us at the head table. Now we have it in our TV Den in pride of place when you enter the room. It lights up the bar and couch with an awesome pink glow and sets the vibe for some epic nights!
